Emily E. Richards. I am a PhD candidate in my fifth year in the Department of Astronomy at Indiana University. I work with Dr. Liese van Zee on a project measuring the distribution of dark matter using gas kinematics in a statistical sample of nearby galaxies. We are exploring connections between the distribution of dark matter and baryonic matter to better understand how gas and stars settle in their dark matter halos during galaxy formation and evolution. BS Physics and Astronomy 2011.

I am a fifth year astronomy graduate student working with Dr. Eileen Friel at Indiana University. In my research, I enjoy exploring what open and globular clusters in the Milky Way can teach us about the history and evolution of the our Galaxy and stellar populations, using both observations and computer simulations. I am also very interested in learning and applying data mining and machine learning techniques to research problems in astronomy.
